Our Story

How we got here

Our story has taken us through New York, many thousands of miles of travel, and soon, to the cobblestone streets of San Miguel de Allende.

  1. The Beginning

    How we met

We met entirely by chance shortly after Michael moved to New York. One date led to another as Sam introduced Michael to the city's many treasures, and we both knew quickly that this was the start of something special.

  2. The First Year

    Building a life

It did not take long to see how strong our chemistry was, as the rhythms of our lives became ever more intertwined. We delighted in getting to know each other's friends and families, and we set out to explore the world together: the American West, Europe, South Africa, and, of course, Mexico. It all culminated in the happiest move of all, into a home of our own in Brooklyn.

  3. The Question

    The proposal

Michael surprised Sam with a proposal on the slopes of Big Sky, Montana, in the middle of a day of skiing, the activity Sam loves most. With Michael's family gathered around us and the mountains stretching out in every direction, the answer was never in doubt. It is a moment we will carry with us always, and the perfect beginning to the next chapter of our lives.

Beginning the trip of a lifetime

We fell in love with San Miguel on our very first visit: its light, its rooftops, and the way even an ordinary afternoon resembles a painting. When we walked into the Instituto Allende and saw its courtyards surrounded by eighty-year-old murals, we knew we had found our venue. We are thrilled to share our favorite city with the people we love most.
